Summary[]
CAT AND VINCENT WORK TO REKINDLE THEIR ROMANTIC SPARK — Cat (Kristin Kreuk) and Vincent (Jay Ryan) take their relationship to a couples counselor (Saul Rubinek) when Cat gives into her work and suspects a wealthy transplant recipient of being involved with the mysterious experiments on innocent people in the city. Nina Lisandrello and Austin Basis also star.
Vincent accuses Catherine of looking for cases where there are none. Cat accuses Vince of burying himself in medical work. They agree to attempt couples counseling but can't tell Dr. Glenroy the truth. When dying billionaire Zalman 'finds' the only compatible donor heart, they investigate. The organ is stolen and abandoned after the thief is murdered. Vince and Cat fall back into old ways when they discover that the heart contains beast-serum.
Plot[]
Vincent and Catherine go to Dr. Glenroy to help them with their fight/disagreement (depending on who you ask). They babble about “hearts in freezers”. To avoid the “how did you two meet?” question Cat wants to skip ahead to their fight, or as Vincent calls it a disagreement. Cat blurts out how they can’t avoid the fact that deadly snipers are after them. Dr. Glenroy identifies their first issue: avoidance. The day before, Catherine calls Vincent to ask about Bob and Carol. Vincent says he can’t talk at the moment because he is on a double shift to make up for all the time he has taken off to work on beast cases. Cat says if it wasn’t for chasing down superhuman experiments they wouldn’t see each other anymore. Catherine goes to Tess’s new office to get permission to investigate an apparent suicide. Cat concludes drilling a hole through your own skull is not the most effective suicide method, so it has to be a superhuman murder. Catherine’s theory is this: The deceased, April was an organ donor with an extremely rare blood-type. She happened to be the perfect match for dying millionaire Marshall Zalman. Cat believes that Zalman had April killed so he could take her heart. Cat suspects Zalman of being behind the serum experiments. Meanwhile, JT tests his new self-regenerating abilities by throwing himself down a flight of stairs. Catherine drags Vincent to a party to confront Zalman who turns out to be a “wheelchair-bound dying philanthropist in need of a heart”. Cat interrogates Zalman on scene. Vincent tries to stop Cat. They argue and Zalman ends up having a heart attack. Vincent yells at her to back off and starts doing his doctor thing. In present time, the doctor tells Catherine and Vincent that they have issues with avoidance and the need to save each other. The doctor asks Vincent what he means by that he resents Cat for always saving him. There are a couple of flashbacks to Cat reminding Vincent to pick his humanity and not cross that primal line. Then what is really bothering Cat comes out: Vincent said the only thing keeping them together is cases. Vincent feels like they spend all their time on cases. When the doctor sees them on the same page, he asks what was different on this case. While JT struggles with his serum-issue, Tess doesn’t want to be involved in any “bizarro cases”. So, JT reaches out to Heather. Catherine is obsessed with proving that Zalman serum-enhanced April. Vincent has a ‘save his life first/ask questions later’ attitude. Cat wants to discover who is behind the experiments so she can “save Vincent”. Vincent wants to “save” Cat from getting sued. Catherine explains that April was very sick until a few weeks ago. She started an “experimental treatment” which “supercharged her immune system” and then made a sudden recovery. That screams “serum enhanced heart”. JT tests it and confirms it. He also lets the gang know that he has been developing an antidote, which they don’t get to use because the heart gets stolen. Catherine and Vincent decide to go their separate ways. Cat zooms through the city to find the heart. She comes across a building and finds Vincent. They track down the heart thief, only to realize that someone killed him. Even more confusing, they find the heart inside a freezer, so looks like whoever stole it didn’t have any use for it. The killer locks them in the freezer. Vincent gets a bit “beast-stubborn” for a while, but Cat convinces him that “freezing to death” is a good excuse to “go full beast”. Vincent and Catherine escape and deliver the heart to JT for testing. After passing JT’s super-charged test, Vincent returns the heart to the hospital. Zalman’s wife, Belinda, thanks Vincent and threatens to sue everyone for obstruction of heart transplant. She tells her bald henchman that he was supposed to ensure that Catherine and Vincent never found the heart and that he failed. Dr. Glenroy concludes Catherine and Vincent are “unusually intertwined” and a “frigging fairy tale”. Vincent and Cat look lovingly at each other and agree that this is the case. Dr. Glenroy says, “not so quick” and diagnoses them with co-dependency. On their drive home, Catherine and Vincent talk about co-dependency. Catherine realizes that Mrs. Zalman resented her husband for donating all his money to charity after she devoted her life to him and Belinda is behind the heart’s kidnapping. Belinda cuts the hospital’s power to stop the transplant. Catherine goes after her. Vincent volunteers to complete Zalman’s surgery because he can see in the dark. Vincent and Cat save the day - separately. Vincent has a heart to heart with Zalman. At Catherine’s suggestion, Tess makes sure JT knows how important he is to her. Back at Catherine’s place, they wonder if they should close the window since Bob and Carol are still out there. Vincent has other ways to distract her. |
