A Switchblade (also known as an automatic knife) is a type of knife with a sliding blade contained in the handle which is opened automatically by a spring when a button, lever, or switch on the handle is activated. A manually operated safety device fitted to the knife prevents the blade from opening in the event the button is accidentally pressed.

Agent McCleary attempted to stab Catherine Chandler with a switchblade, but she blocked his attack and fought him off. One of his associate's then tried to hold onto her so Agent McCleary could stab her, but she fought him off as well and moved out off the way causing Agent McCleary to accidentally stab his associate to death.
